Gifted
Assessments

Every child learns and thinks in their own unique way. Some children show advanced verbal abilities, reasoning, or problem‑solving skills that go beyond what’s typical for their age. A gifted assessment helps identify exceptional cognitive strengths and provides insight into how to best support your child’s learning and development. A gifted assessment can be used to determine if they are in need of enrichment programming at school.

What should
you expect?

  • We meet for a clinical interview to discuss your or your child’s developmental history, school performance, strengths and specific concerns.

  • We meet with you or your child one-on-one and use standardized clinical tools to measure cognitive abilities. In this case, we use the WISC 5 for children 6-16 years and the WAIS-IV for 16 years up.

  • We analyze the testing data using the normative sample for Canadians.

  • The information will be presented in a feedback session where we review findings, explain the cognitive profile, and discuss recommendations for how to be best supported at home and at school.

We also provide a child/adolescent friendly feedback session where we explain results in a developmentally appropriate way to your child.

  • We provide you with a detailed document containing test scores, clinical observations, and recommendations for school.
The report will not be sent to anyone without your and/or your child’s consent.  You may find it helpful to share the report with the school for academic planning (IEP and IPRC meetings).

Note our assessment will convey the cognitive scores of your child but the school will ultimately provide the identification of giftedness.

Benefits of an Assessment

Giftedness can look different for every child — sometimes it’s obvious, and sometimes it’s hidden behind perfectionism, anxiety, or uneven performance. Our goal is to provide clarity and guidance so families and educators can create environments where gifted children feel challenged, understood, and supported. A gifted assessment helps you understand the unique way your child thinks and processes information by exploring the following cognitive areas:

  • Verbal Comprehension

  • Visual-Spatial

  • Fluid Reasoning

  • Working Memory

  • Processing Speed

Understanding your child’s profile can help you advocate for appropriate enrichment or acceleration at school and nurture curiosity and motivation in healthy, sustainable ways.

Please note a gifted assessment is a brief assessment that is limited to understanding only your child’s cognitive profile. We recognize that individuals often have well developed talents and skills in areas that are not measured by standardized tests, such as musical ability, physical skills, or creativity. To understand you child’s academic and socio-emotional profile, we recommend a comprehensive psychoeducational assessment
