Clinical Assessments
A clinical assessment helps you understand the emotional and behavioural factors affecting you or your child’s wellbeing. By exploring patterns in mood, coping, and daily functioning, we identify strengths, challenges, and whether symptoms align with a mental health diagnosis. At the end of the assessment, you’ll receive clear, practical recommendations to support meaningful change at home, at school/work, and in everyday life.
What should
you expect?
-
We conduct a clinical interviews to better understand your concerns. For children/adolescents with meet with caregivers first to discuss your child’s developmental history, strengths and specific concerns. We follow up with age appropriate interviewing and clinical observation of the child.
For adults we meet with you and in some cases a spouse or a parent who knows you well, to understand your history and current concerns. -
Standardized questionnaires are completed by various individuals to provides a holistic view of you/your child across different environments.
For youth we ask that questionnaires be completed by caregivers, the child/adolescent, and where applicable, teachers and other healthcare professionals. For adults you will complete questionnaires directly, and in some cases we ask for a caregiver, spousal or colleague input.
We also review other sources of information like previous psychological/psychiatric reports, speech language reports, report cards etc.
-
The information will be presented in a “feedback” session where we review findings, explain any diagnoses, and discuss recommendations for how to best support you or your child/adolescent.
We also provide a child/adolescent friendly feedback session where we explain results in a developmentally appropriate way to your child. -
A detailed document containing test scores, clinical observations, and tailored recommendations follows the feedback session.
The report will not be sent to anyone without your and/or your child’s consent. You may find it helpful to share the report with other medical/mental health providers or your school/post-secondary.
