Psychoeducational Assessments

A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of your child’s unique learning, academic and social-emotional profile. We will identify your child’s specific strengths and areas of challenges, and provide diagnoses when present. The aim is to help you and the school best understand your child and provide you with tailored recommendations to support your child at home, school and in daily life.

Assessments are used to identify the following:

  • Learning Disabilities (i.e., Dyslexia, Dyscalculia).

  • Giftedness

  • Intellectual Disabilities

  • Mental health Diagnoses (e.g. Anxiety, OCD, Depression etc.)

  • Neurodevelopmental disorders  (e.g. ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder)

The process:

  1. Parent Interviewing - We meet with you for a clinical interview to discuss your child’s developmental history, school performance, strengths and specific concerns in order to tailor our assessment plan.

  2. Testing Sessions: We meet with your child one on one and use clinical tools to measure cognitive ability, memory, attention, and academic skills. We will work at your child’s pace (this usually takes 3-6 hours).

  3. Data Collection: Standardized questionnaires are completed by parents, teachers and your child to provide a holistic view of your child across different environments.  We will also review report cards and other sources of information like previous psychological reports, speech language reports etc.

  4. Feedback Meeting & Report: The information will be presented to you in a feedback session where we review findings, explain any diagnoses, and discuss recommendations for how to best support your child. We also provide a child friendly feedback session where we explain results in a developmentally appropriate way to your child. A detailed document containing test scores, clinical observations, and tailored recommendations for how to support your child at school and at home. You may find it helpful to share the report with other medical/mental health providers or the school for school planning (IEP and IPRC meetings, University Accomodations etc).

Fees

The fee is based on the time spent on the assessment which includes everything above: the interviews, the administration/scoring of the tests and questionnaires, the feedback session and the detailed report.  The fee depends on the time taken to complete all parts of the assessment and generally ranges from $3800-4,500.  The assessment is completed or supervised by a clinical psychologist and as such may be claimed through insurance (please contact your insurance provider ahead of time).
